EMERGENCY FIXATION OF TESTES STUDY
PROJECT LEAD: Tristan Boam
National cross-specialty survey of practice for the emergency fixation of testis in children
Emergency scrotal exploration is a commonly performed procedure in children. There is a wide variation in practice throughout the UK in the way that testes are fixed, both in the presence or absence of testicular torsion. A significant proportion of paediatric emergency scrotal explorations are performed by either Urologists or General Surgeons at district general hospitals, with the rest being performed at tertiary Paediatric Surgery units in areas where these are situated.
Methodology:
Survey of all UK Paediatric Surgeons, General Surgeons and Urologists, of Consultant or Middle Grade (Registrars) that perform emergency scrotal explorations in children aged 16 years or under, and/or are responsible for supervising juniors that perform it (ongoing)
